Derek Chisora vs Alen Babic Possible As Pair Open To Bizarre, Sensational ‘Left-Field’ Clash
Derek Chisora vs Alen Babic Could Be On The Horizon As Both Men Express Interest In Potential Slugfest Clash
Derek Chisora was victim to a one-sided beating from Tyson Fury last December which resulted in him suffering a 10th-round TKO loss, only the fourth stoppage defeat of his 15-year plus career, to a decade-long rival. Fury retained his WBC Heavyweight championship in front of 59,789 fans at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. Chisora suffered his thirteenth career setback and his third one to Fury.
Despite clearly being on a steep decline, Chisora intends to continue his boxing career and looks to return to the ring in 2023. Surprisingly, the British Heavyweight secured a role in the promotion for Jake Paul-Tommy Fury this month which has slightly pushed back discussions around his next contest.
Whilst in Saudi, Chisora allegedly revealed interest in fighting for the WBC Bridgerweight title which fan-favourite Alen Babic will contest for, against Poland’s Lukasz Rozanski, on April 22 in Rzeszów. Although it is unlikely Chisora could make the 220-pound Bridgerweight limit, if Babic does beat Rozanski, the idea of a fight with Chisora is likely going to capture the interest of fight fans and may be possible at a higher weight.
Babic, when asked by Boxing King Media if he would entertain a fight with Chisora, was welcoming of what would be a ‘left-field’ matchup and expressed a wealth of respect for the veteran Heavyweight. “Of course (I would fight him), Derek Chisora is one of my favourites, I watch every single one of his fights. He was with me in my last fight. I love Derek Chisora.”
Babic vs Chisora has long been considered a guaranteed slugfest due to both of their styles and Babic admits he wasn’t ready for Chisora in the past. “That is the fight that fans called for 3 years, I was always like ‘bro he’s Derek Chisora, I’m not there yet, wait’ now if he wants to fight, 100% I’m the easiest man to negotiate (with), I just say yes to everything.”
Chisora has been fighting at several levels above the Croatian for the last few years but now they could meet at a crossroads. Babic has never competed anywhere near the level of Chisora and isn’t a fully-fledged heavyweight whilst Chisora is visibly on the back nine and the majority of fans would like to see him hang up the gloves after a storied career.
