Ring Of Honor Results: April 6, 2023

Ring Of Honor is back for the sixth episode on HonorClub. The show is stacked with champions and contenders as we see new ROH Pure Champion Katsuyori Shibata vs. Christopher Daniels, plus, ROH Women’s Champion Athena defends against Miyu Yamashita. Also, a big six-man tag team match kicks us off, which could boost one team into title contention.

The women main evented tonight’s show when Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling ace, Miyu Yamashita challenged Athena for her World Championship less than a week after she successfully defended the title at the Supercard Of Honor Pay-Per-View.

This is a tough test for Athena. Miyu was ready to go and even unsuccessfully tried for her head vicious head kick out of the gate. Though she didn’t get the signature kick, a springboard kick landed right to the face of Athena. The queen of kicks had full control of the champion early on.

Athena had to get scrappy in order to take back control, using every part of the ring she could to get an advantage. After Miyu’s head was slammed into the ring post, the champion had the best of the match at this point. But, the challenger wouldn’t stay down so easy and a back-and-forth battle was upon us.

Athena tried for her Oh-Face finish but was stopped up top by a head kick before being driven down to the mat by a fireman’s carry slam. Miyu tried to follow up with a pump knee strike but was reversed into a single-leg Boston crab by Athena.

After Miyu broke out of the submission, she had Athena on the ropes after a series of deadly moves. She tried for her signature skull kick, but Athena got out of the way and tried to leave. Of course, Yamashita wouldn’t let that happen. They brawled on the stage before Athena pushed Yamashita off the stage and then cannonballed onto her.

As the action returned to the ring, both women were exhausted, giving their all. But, it was Athena who locked in a cross-face submission and put Miyu Yamashita to sleep to retain her Ring of Honor Women’s World Championship.
