Usyk vs Dubois Date Moved From Aug 12, Clash With Anthony Joshua Fight Avoided

– Alex Krassyuk Won The Purse Bids For Oleksandr Usyk’s Mandatory Defence

– Ukrainian Promoter Bid Over $8m, Beating Frank Warren By Around $2.5m

– The Usyk vs Dubois Date Has Been Moved From Aug 12

Last month, Alek Krassyuk (K2 Promotions) won the promotional rights to the WBA mandatory title defense between his fighter Oleksandr Usyk and Queensberry Promotions’ charge Daniel Dubois.

Krassyuk successfully outbid the English company headed by Frank Warren with an offer of $8,057,000 which was around $2,400,000 higher than the $5,620,050 bid offered by Dubois’ promoter.

Usyk, the WBA, IBF, and WBO Heavyweight champion, will officially receive 75% of the purse ($6,042,750) whilst the WBA’s secondary champion Dubois is entitled to 25% ($2,014,250).

The Ukrainian promoter originally stated that the contest would take place on August 12 at the 45,000-capacity Wrocław Stadium in Wrocław, Poland but he has now confirmed to TVP Sport that the date for the unified title fight will be two weeks later on August 26.

Ukrainian independence day is on Thursday, August 24 and therefore Krassyuk has decided to stage the fight two days later, instead of August 12, as he believes it is the ‘perfect opportunity’ for the fight.

By doing this, they also avoid a clash with Anthony Joshua‘s return which is slated for August 12 in London with Dillian Whyte the frontrunner opponent, and a reservation on the O2 Arena already held.

Details of the TV, or streaming rights are yet to be disclosed, with Alex Krassyuk telling NoSmokeSport last week that the “Usyk vs Dubois TV rights depend on the offer”. All three of BT, DAZN, and Sky Sports are ‘in play’ to show the fight in the UK with NoSmokeSport learning that there is strong interest from both BT and DAZN to do just that.

Despite being the younger and more powerful puncher, Dubois has a significant hurdle ahead, as many feel that this match against Usyk may be a step too far at this stage. Nevertheless, he’ll be heading into the fight under the guidance of his new trainer, Don Charles, following a surprising split from Shane McGuigan, something that NoSmokeSport broke the news of previously.
