McGuigan Thinks Okolie Should Consider Heavyweight Division After Cruiserweight Setback

In a surprising turn of events, Chris Billam-Smith claimed victory over Lawrence Okolie, capturing the WBO Cruiserweight world title. In the aftermath of the defeat, Billam-Smith’s trainer, Shane McGuigan, has proposed that Okolie should consider moving up to the Heavyweight division.

Shane McGuigan Thinks Lawrence Okolie Should Move To Heavyweight

Speaking to NoSmokeSport in a post-match interview, McGuigan said, “It takes a lot out of his body to drop him down to Cruiserweight. He’s more effective with a little more weight on him. I know what I think he should do, and that’s move up to Heavyweight.”

Despite the loss, Lawrence Okolie has a chance to regain his title. A rematch clause was included in his fight contract with Billam-Smith, as the fight was a voluntary defense of his title. So, time will tell if Okolie decides to act upon that rematch option, or use this loss as a turning point in his career and take the opinion of his former trainer into account.
