Ginny Fuchs Interview: Fight Prep, Mental Health & Matchroom Boxing Plans
Ginny Fuchs, the American boxer who will be fighting Indeya Smith on June 17th at the Smoothie King Center, New Orleans, on the Regis Prograis vs Danielito Zorrilla undercard, spoke with NoSmokeSport. Fuchs expressed her excitement at being on the Matchroom card and hopes to continue working with Eddie Hearn. She commended Matchroom for promoting women’s boxing and mentioned her positive experience fighting in the UK, highlighting the great support and love she received from fans.
Ginny Fuchs On Her Experience With Matchroom Boxing and Balancing Mental Health
Fuchs, a mental health advocate who suffers from OCD, mentioned how boxing serves as a therapy for her. When she is in the ring or training, her focus is solely on the task at hand, and she can better manage her OCD. She encourages others with mental health issues to find a passion or value that helps them to cope.
Regarding her opponent, Indeya Smith, Fuchs revealed that they have faced each other in the amateurs, where she had secured a victory. Despite Smith having more professional experience, Fuchs is confident that her amateur experience will give her an edge.
Lastly, Fuchs shared the origin of her nicknames “Captain Fooks” and “The Pirate” which stem from her love for the water and being a captain of the USA Olympic Boxing Team for Rio 2016, where she would encourage her teammates with pirate-themed commands.
She ended the interview with a quick prediction for the Prograis vs Zorrilla fight, favoring Prograis for a knockout win in the early rounds.
