Billy Dib Opens Up About His Fight and Victory Over Cancer
Two-time world boxing champion, Billy Dib, announced earlier this year that he was successful in his battle with stomach cancer and was in remission. He caught up with Lee of NoSmokeSport for his latest episode of Passion In The Punch to discuss his journey, winning the biggest fight of his life, and how he plans to move forward.
After his diagnosis in October 2022, Dib, 37, is now in remission. In response to this inspiring news, WBC president Mauricio Sulaimán revealed that Dib would be receiving the “Champion of Life” belt later this year.
To share his joyful news, Dib posted a video of his son celebrating with a sign reading, “Hi guys, my dad is in remission”. He expressed his gratitude on Twitter, thanking God, his medical team, his family, and his supporters for their relentless support and prayers throughout his journey.
Former professional boxer Adonis Stevenson, who recently received the Champion of Life belt, will present the award to Billy Dib at the WBC’s annual convention later this year.
Billy Dib’s fight against cancer was not without its hurdles. After having a tumor removed in October of the previous year, he was later diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s, Burkitt lymphoma cancer. Born to Lebanese parents and raised in Sydney, Dib began boxing at 12. He turned professional in 2004 and secured numerous prestigious titles during his career. Despite his battle with cancer, Dib has remained an inspiring figure, his recent health victory testament to his fighter spirit.
