Johnny Fisher (8-0, 7 KOs) will compete over eight rounds for the second time this Saturday at the OVO Wembley Arena, live on DAZN as he moves closer to his first professional title.

The card is topped by IBF Flyweight champion Sunny Edwards and also features world title fights involving Ellie Scotney and Nina Hughes as well as the return of 2020 Olympian Cheavon Clarke.

When speaking exclusively to NoSmokeSport.com, Fisher furnished the credentials of his opponent this weekend, Emilio Salas (7-4-1) citing that he would present a worthy challenge for the up and coming prospect.

“I got a Southpaw, he comes to have a fight and he’s technically sound ” Johnny Fisher told NoSmokeSport “This guy is gonna give me a lot to think about!”

The ‘Romford Bull’ expressed hope that his devoted fanbase, coming by way of Essex, would also cheer on another Essex fighter on the card, in world bantamweight champion Hughes. She defends her title against the unbeaten, Katie Healy.

“My fans aren’t traditional boxing fans and I want to get them into the sport. Hopefully we can get some people to support other boxers as well.”

One thing’s for certain, Fisher is hoping to keep those loyal self-proclaimed ‘Bosh soldiers’ invested in his career and journey, the best way he can: providing lethal stoppages in the ring.

“We always want to deliver knockout performances, that’s what people want. My careers starting to take shape now as I go up the levels I think that’ll keep people engaged.”

Southern Area Plans

He also revealed he was on board with manager, Adam Morallee’s plans for him to contest the Southern Area championship belt as soon as possible.

“I’d love to fight for the Southern Area in the quite near future. 8 rounder next and then reassess from there, I’ve got a job to do next Saturday. SJam know how to guide me correctly.”

Daniel Dubois was the last man to fight for the Southern Area heavyweight crown, and he is now set to face Oleksandr Usyk as mandatory challenger in Poland.

Eddie Hearn’s Show Of Faith

Eddie Hearn has made many a career in his tenure as Chairman of Matchroom Sport, which is based out of Brentwood, Essex. Again, the county allegiance is something that strikes a chord with Fisher, leading him to declare that Hearn is ‘like one of us’.

Fisher is conscious that he may not be the finished article. Nonetheless, he feels a debt of gratitude to Eddie and his wider, SJam team, for showing faith in his ability from the start of his career, when he didn’t have the backing of travelling support that he now has.

“When I first started out, I had no credentials whatsoever. Not saying I’m a great leading prospect now, I’m just someone who sells a lot of tickets and can punch a bit. Back then he showed faith in me when I literally had nothing.”

“Him and SJam really put faith in me. Hopefully one day I can repay that and he’s a good bloke Eddie.”

Fisher hopes to be able to win titles and perform well on the gate, as he has already done numerous times, and make Matchroom’s faith in signing him pay off.

Reflections On Joyce’s Loss To Zhang

Unsurprisingly, Fisher backed his SJam colleague, Joe Joyce, to right the wrong of his stoppage defeat to Zhilei Zhang. Believing the defeat represents a blessing in disguise and revealing that Joyce is cognisant of what adjustments he needs to make.

“I was in camp with Joe for the very beginning of his camp over in Vegas. He knows what he’s got to do differently, he’s really switched on now and this is the best thing that could’ve happened to him, a little nudge up the backside.”
