Tyson Fury vs Zhilei Zhang Deal Being Finalized For July Reveals Promoter Bob Arum
No Joe Joyce Rematch, As Tyson Fury vs Zhilei Zhang Emerges As Front Runner For Gypsy King’s Summer Return
Tyson Fury‘s co-promoter, Bob Arum, has revealed to Ringside Reporter Live that an agreement is being finalized for the Gypsy King to defend his WBC Heavyweight title against Chinese southpaw Zhilei Zhang in July with hopes to close out a deal this weekend.
Arum “We’re focusing on (Zhilei Zhang)…Yes (Zhang is the front-runner for Fury). It’s likely for July, we’re trying to close that out this weekend.”
Although no specific date or location has been mentioned, NoSmokeSport.com has learned that July 15 at London’s Wembley Stadium is one of the possibilities to host Fury’s next fight.
Zhang (25-1-1, 20 KOs) earnt the biggest win of his career when he pummelled Joe Joyce at the Copper Box to win the WBO Interim World Heavyweight title via a sixth-round stoppage by the referee on the advice of the ringside doctor.
Joyce has a rematch clause in his contract but with Fury and ‘The Juggernaut’ sharing the same promoter, Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions, it comes off little surprise that Zhang will get a world title shot next.
Fury scored a 10th-round TKO win over decade-long rival Derek Chisora to retain his WBC heavyweight championship and move to 33-0-1 (24 KOs) in December at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
Last month, Amer Abdullah, the head of boxing at Saudi Arabian company ‘Skills Challenge Entertainment’ confirmed rumors that the Kingdom is planning to stage an undisputed bout between Fury and Usyk and Joshua vs Wilder on the same card in an interview with Boxing King Media.
Fury hasn’t been particularly optimistic about the idea but with the track record in what he says, fans are hoping that his plan is to have a summer bout, likely against Zhang now, and then go into the undisputed bout in December.
