Tokkers’ Tips – Stevenson, Navarette, Ball
With a bumper week of action, I’ve looked through the betting markets to try and find the value in this week’s fights, with Nick Ball, Shakur Stevenson, Bakhodir Jalolov and Emanuel Navarrete all in action, this isn’t one to be missed!
Starting in Vegas on Thursday, Shakur Stevenson attempts to become a 3 weight world champion when he faces Edwin De Los Santos for the vacant WBC Lightweight title. Simply put. Shakur is levels above anyone at 135lbs, De Los Santos is no exception. Stevenson will put on a clinical performance, and I believe with his increased size and De Los Santos having been hurt before, will stop De Losf Santos late. My bet for the contest is Shakur Stevenson to win in rounds 7-12 at 9/2
The chief support in Vegas sees Emanuel Navarrete make the 2nd defence of his WBO 130lbs title against Olympic Gold Medalist and former 2 time title challenger Robson Conceicao. I see Navarrete simply being too young, too fresh and too physical for the veteran at this stage. At the age of 35, and with Navarrete coming off of a career best performance I see the late rounds getting rough for Conceicao. Leading to a stoppage victory for “Vaquero”. My pick for the contest is Emanuel Navarrete to win in rounds 7-12 at 11/5
Moving to Uzbekistan on Friday. Bakhodir Jalolov returns against Chris Thompson. A name that could be familiar to UK fight fans, as be dropped a UD to Solomon Dacres this August. This is a mismatch. However there is value I believe in the over/under market. Jalolov should get rid of Thompson early. For that reason I am taking Jalolov Thompson under 2.5 rounds at 10/11
Now over to the magnificent seven show in Manchester. Denzel Bentley defends his British title against Stoke fan favourite Nathan Heaney in a fight that I do not believe will be that competitive. Bentley is more proven, has better wins, and has boxed at a much higher level. For those reasons I see Bentley winning well and stopping Heaney. Denzel Bentley to win in rounds 5-8 at 2/1 is my play.
Also on the show Ekow Essuman defends his British and Commonwealth titles against Harry Scarff. Essuman has more pedigree than Scarff, having been around the GB set up for many years, as well as being a seasoned British level operator in the pros. I see Essuman grinding Scarff down to take a competitive, but clear decision victory. My pick is Ekow Essuman to win on points at 11/10
Nathaniel Collins defends his British and Commonwealth titles against the unbeaten Zak Miller in Manchester also. After a 24 second KO of Raza Hamza last time out, Collins will look to repeat that feat against Miller who takes his first real step up. I see Collins simply being levels above the Manchester man, and stopping him early. My bet for the contest is Nathaniel Collins to win in rounds 1-6 at 21/20
Liam Davies faces European mandatory challenger Vincenzo La Femina in Manchester. Similarly to Nathaniel Collins, the Telford man is coming off an impressive round one KO win, and will look to stamp himself as one of the best prospects at 122lbs with another impressive outing on Saturday. I see Davies being too big, and too strong for the unbeaten challenger and ultimately breaking him down and stopping him. My pick for the contest is Liam Davies to win by stoppage at 4/6
Nick Ball faces Isaac Dogboe in a WBC Eliminator on Saturday at Featherweight. I see Dogboe making it very competitive with Ball. However with it being on a home show for Ball, and Dogboe undoubtedly having a lot of miles on the clock, I see Ball taking a razor thin decision, with many people seeing it the other way. My pick for the contest is Nick Ball to win on points at 13/10
Finally Khal Yafai returns to the ring after a year out. His last outing in the UAE was simply horrendous, getting dropped and seemingly clearly losing a decision. However he somehow got the verdict on the judges cards. Another year of inactivity won’t have helped him and although Jonathan Rodriguez is clearly limited, I see him being too fresh for the former world champion. I’m going for Jonathan Rodriguez to win at 11/8
