DANIEL OR CAROLINE? The Ultimatum That Father Dave Dubois Gave Trainer Shane McGuigan

Shane McGuigan Picked Caroline Dubois Over Her Brother Daniel After Father Dave Forced Him To Decide Between The Pair

NoSmokeSport.com broke the news on Monday that the WBA (Regular) Heavyweight champion, Daniel Dubois had parted ways with leading British trainer Shane McGuigan after a Dubois family dispute.

Dubois previously left Mark Tibbs after a short stint in 2021. It was later revealed that the involvement of the Heavyweight’s father was central to the split.

History has repeated itself as the Queensberry-promoted fighter has now abandoned another trainer and his father is once again in the middle of it.

A source has revealed to NoSmokeSport that an argument between Daniel’s sister, Caroline Dubois and her father, Dave, led to the Lightweight prospect leaving the family home.

The father Dave Dubois offered an ultimatum to McGuigan. Either McGuigan would stop working with Caroline or he would take his son elsewhere. And the leading trainer picked Caroline over Daniel.

Shane, the son of Barry McGuigan, believes that he has the best prospect in women’s boxing, who can win world titles at multiple weight classes.

Caroline’s next fight date was announced on Monday for June 16 at London’s York Hall on the undercard of gym mate Adam Azim’s bout with Ukranian Aram Fanyan. She will face Argentina’s Yanina del Carmen Lescano (13-2, 4 KO’s) in a significant step up as she moves closer to a shot at the world Lightweight title.

Whilst the 25-year-old Heavyweight has now teamed up with Don Charles, according to multiple reports including a segment on ‘Stamina For Sale‘ who was first to reveal the link-up.

The WBA has ordered Daniel to face unified champion Oleksandr Usyk. The pair have failed to agree on a deal after well over 30 days of negotiations and a purse bid has been scheduled for May 25 in Houston, Texas. The split will be 75-25 in favour of the Ukranian.

Whether the fight takes place or not is yet to be seen. Stay tuned to NoSmokeSport for the latest breaking news, updates, and fight week coverage as it happens.
