Matchroom Wins O’Shaquie Foster vs Eduardo Hernandez WBC World Title Purse Bids

  • O’Shaquie Foster vs Rocky Hernandez Was Officially Ordered By The WBC
  • Super Featherweight Title Fight Purse Bids Won By Matchroom Boxing
  • Neither A Date Nor A Location Was Provided For Foster vs Hernandez

The WBC officially ordered their Super Featherweight world champion O’Shaquie Foster to defend his title against the mandatory challenger Mexico’s Eduardo ‘Rocky’ Hernandez last month, NoSmokeSport revealed.

Purse bids for the contest took place today, August 8 in Mexico City via Zoom.

Matchroom Boxing was the sole bidder and won the promotional rights to the world title fight, bidding $466,666 – that is according to Boxing Scene’s Jake Donovan.

10% will be placed in escrow as is standard with WBC world title purse bids.

Foster is set to receive 75% of the remaining 90% or $315,000 whilst Hernandez is entitled to 25% or $105,000.

Matchroom had originally hoped to do a deal in time to stage the event on Sep 9 in Texas but terms couldn’t be agreed in time, despite Foster being a promotional free agent.

The American won his title with a convincing unanimous decision over the 36-0 Rey Vargas in a Showtime headliner in February.

The 29-year-old aimed for a unification bout with Wales’ Joe Cordina but the clash doesn’t make economic sense this year, per promoter Eddie Hearn, and will be explored again next year.

Rocky Hernandez produced back-to-back stoppage wins on Matchroom shows in 2022 before inking a contract with them earlier this year.

He made an explosive Matchroom debut in July and now has secured a first title shot. Hernandez’s sole defeat came in the opening round to Roger Gutierrez in 2019.
