Last week, Eddie Hearn revealed to Boxing King Media that he had engaged in talks for Canelo Alvarez to face Swedish three-weight champion Badou Jack, who won the WBC Cruiserweight world title in February, in his next fight.

Hearn revealed that discussions have taken place with Prince Khaled to potentially stage the fight in Saudi Arabia. The British promoter is open to making the bout which could see boxing’s biggest star win a world title in his fifth weight class.

“Yes. I spoke to Prince Khaled about that fight. I like the fight because I think Badou Jack was a Super Middleweight you know.” Hearn told Boxing King Media. “I don’t think Eddy Reynoso is rushing around that fight but I think it might have some legs.”

Amer Abdullah, the promoter for Skills Challenge Entertainment who represents the boxing interests of Saudi Arabia, has now revealed in an interview with Boxing King Media that terms are 90% agreed for the pair to clash for the WBC Cruiserweight title.

“I have been dealing directly with Canelo’s team. We’re all working together here. Skills Challenge Promotions is the lead. We manage, we promote, and we oversee Badou. There is intention to have the fight, out of the five or six terms we’re agreed on the majority of them.”

“Canelo Alvarez is the face of boxing and he wants to jump up to Cruiserweight. The only thing that’s sticking right now is where that weight is. The financial terms are agreed upon, the date is agreed upon, everything is there.”

“If you want to come up to Cruiserweight, you have to come up at Cruiserweight.” Abdullah is hinting that Canelo-Jack would have to take place at the 200 limit rather than a catchweight between 175-200 that would favour Alvarez.

“We have 90% of the terms agreed to.”

Alvarez is widely regarded as boxing’s biggest star ad bringing him to the Kingdom would be another major boxed ticked for the Saudis, especially in terms of interest and exposure to the Kingdom from the American audience. Jack is aligned with the organisation.
